In 2008 I met a boat and quickly came to understand that this was one of the safest and most seaworthy boats ever made. There were only 6 Scheel 45's ever made; this one was lovingly cared for by a grand old salt who became my dear friend. He passed away at 104, still sailing this boat well into his 90's. I acquired the boat, knowing that restoring it to grandeur would require patience, skill, and excuse the pun, but a boatload of moola.
We figured the refit would take 6 months. We didn't portend a pandemic, and Covid led to seemingly endless supply chain and other obstacles. We persisted.
